Get a Speaker

Book a Houston-area author or illustrator to speak at your school, library, or special event. Choose a speaker from our list, and prepare to be inspired!

Want a speaker, but don’t have the funds? Ask an SCBWI member to nominate your school for an Amber Brown Grant (see info below).

Our Speakers

*Speakers are members of the SCBWI national who live in the Houston area and who have paid to join the local Speakers Bureau. To book a speaker, please contact the speaker directly using the contact information provided on their page. For information on joining the Speakers Bureau or to extend an invitation to all the speakers, contact Millie Martin.

Books can be ordered directly from the publisher (the speaker can provide information), a local bookstore can handle book sales/orders for the event, or some speakers will handle their own book sales. Speakers may provide book order forms, or you may create your own using this Book Order Form. Replace each CAPITALIZED PROMPT with the correct information and print!

Check out these fun classroom activities before and after your school’s event.

SCBWI established the Amber Brown Grant to honor the memory of author Paula Danzinger. Each year, the grant helps schools bring authors and illustrators into their classrooms. Contributions should be sent to SCBWI Executive Office, 8271 Beverly Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90048. SCBWI members may nominate schools using the application found via the “Awards & Grants” tab at www.scbwi.org.
