We are a regional chapter of the international organization for writers and illustrators of children’s books.

What?

Programs feature guest speakers who discuss topics of interest to children's writers and illustrators, of all levels and genres. Consult the calendar for specific dates and program information.

Events are also sponsored by SCBWI-Houston. Annual conferences, workshops, and retreats can be found on our events listing. An optional open critique session precedes each meeting (from 6-7 p.m.). See Critique groups.

When?

Meetings are held on the first Monday night of each month (first Tuesday if first Monday is a holiday), 7-9 p.m.

Where?

We meet at the Tracy Gee Community Center, 3599 Westcenter, Houston, TX 77042, near the intersection of Beltway 8 with 59 on the west side of the city. How?

Membership is through the National office of the SCBWI, in Los Angeles. When you join SCBWI, you automatically become a member of the chapter in the region where you live. Local members who are published may pay an additional fee and join our Speakers Bureau.

Member Benefits

Our local online newsletter, Picturing the Write Stuff, keeps members informed of local events and opportunities as well as providing a forum for sharing advice, tips, and success in the publishing of children’s literature.
