Mary Dodson Wade turns her love of history into biographies that reveal the human side of people. Among her more than 50 books, however, are other topics that have piqued her interest. Her books have been honored by The Parent Council, Western Writers of America, and the International Librarians Association.

After earning a master’s degree in Library Science, she spent 25 years as an elementary librarian. SCBWI played an enormous role in her writing career, and she served as Regional Advisor for the Houston chapter for ten years.

Her enthusiasm for Texas history led her to found Colophon House for the publication of books about early Texas. In addition, she has books published by national publishers such as Scholastic, Enslow, Capstone, Millbrook, and Macmillan.

Audiences for her presentations are treated to stories about Texas, all the while learning the elements of the writing process. She has traveled worldwide in connection with her husband’s career and often does school presentations in places she visits. Her teacher workshops have been well-received.
