Rodríguez, Ana María
I have 14 nonfiction books and over 80 magazine articles published mostly for children. My latest middle-grade books include “Secret of the Sleepless Whales…and More” which belongs in the Animal Secrets Revealed! series. My latest book for teens and adults is “The Iron Butterfly: Memoir of a Martial Arts Master” (www.womanironbutterfly.com; Pelican). In 2011, a series of four middle-grade books about animals living in extreme environments will be released by Enslow, and Twenty-First Century Books (Lerner) will release an updated edition of my book for teens and adults about autism spectrum disorders.
My talks in schools and libraries cover a variety of topics. Some of my talks complement the school curriculum as I present the troubles and anecdotes scientists go through as they pursue their research. The talks about my biographies and memoirs present personal experiences and the culture of outstanding individuals. In my talk “So you want to be a writer?”I introduce 4th grade students to the process of researching bibliographic materials for their projects using examples from my own work, and when I present my talk about my personal evolution, I hope to inspire and motivate young students with my own experiences as I evolved from being a scientist to becoming a writer.
