Miller, Pat
Fun fact: My dogs Hank and Buddy are my stealth editors. They sleep at my feet as I write, but are quick with yippy suggestion when I get stuck.
I was a school librarian for 22 years. My 18 books for school librarians include the Stretchy Library Lesson series. My articles have been in all the issues of LibrarySparks magazine for the past eight years. Perhaps you’ve seen me at my workshops at AASL, TLA, Texas ESCs, and for IRA in May, 2011. I love working with children and librarians!
My Books for Children:
We’re Going on a Book Hunt: “‘Just right’ sums ups this addition to library etiquette titles perfectly.”- School Library Journal, Sept. 2008. TE’s for each book at www.patmillerbooks.com
Squirrel’s New Year’s Resolution: “This introduction to the tradition of resolutions is a strong addition to holiday collections.” School Library Journal, —-October, 2010
Substitute Groundhog (Junior Library Guild selection, hardcover, paperback, audio book) “This whimsical story is sure to please.” School Library Journal, December 2006.
A Pet for Every Person has fun facts about pets from amphibians to virtual pets and gives students practice in reading nonfiction features. A class set and online TE make an excellent resource.
Workshops:
A Writer’s Life is Fun! (PK-2) Writing is hard, but being an author has a lot of perks. Session includes PowerPoint, Photostory, student involvement in singing and performing, and laughter!
Thirty-Three Rejections and a Phone Call (3-5) From idea to book, there’s a lot of rewriting, discouragement and excitement. Students will get an insider look and ideas for their own writing.
Libarian Workshops See www.patmillerbooks.com/events.htm for range of inservice topics.
