Duval, Kathy
Kathy Duval’s upcoming book is Take Me To Your BBQ ( Disney Hyperion, Winter,
2013). Her other books include The Three Bears’ Halloween and The Three Bears’
Christmas (Holiday House) which appeared in the Horn Book Magazine, received a
starred review in Booklist, and was selected as a Bank Street Best Book of the Year.
Her poem “Cosmic Café” was a winner in a nationwide contest chosen to appear in the
anthology, I Invited A Dragon to Dinner and Other Poems to Make you Laugh out
Loud (Philomel). Her poetry also appears in the anthology Ladybug, Ladybug and
Other Favorite Poems (Cricket Magazine Group).
Kathy inspired creativity working with children as an art teacher and art therapist, and
she brings that experience to her school presentations. Her presentations focus on the
creation of a book beginning with the author’s writing process. Then, using props and
student volunteers, Kathy demonstrates how publishers turn author’s stories into books.
A writing workshop is also available for grades 3-5 in which students work together as a
group to create multi-faceted characters, settings and ideas for a plot.
