Submission Guidelines for Picturing the Write Stuff :

We always need informative and entertaining articles from people in our local group!  Query newsletter editor Susan Mitchell with your story ideas. Illustration, photos, and cartoons are welcome, too. Below are submission guidelines.

NOTE! The newsletter is being transitioned from a printed mailed copy to an online version. Assume that the guidelines below still apply unless told otherwise by the editor. Thank you!

Send original MS Word file between 250 and 300 words (may be edited to fit the issue space).
If possible use these text and paragraph formatting parameters:

  • Articles must pertain to the field of writing or illustrating for children.

  • Use 11 pt. Garamond (under paragraph formatting, set line spacing to exactly 13 pt., if not, just set to single spaced text.)

  • Single space after periods.

  • Use first line indent set to .15 in..

  • Don't put line spaces between paragraphs.

  • Use tabs not spaces for special indents (for bullets).

  • Don't type text in ALL CAPS.

  • Use boldface very sparingly.

  • Titles of book are Bold Italic.

  • Remove hyperlinks to websites, but keep web addresses and email links underlined. (Also, please confirm web and email addresses. We don't want to misdirect people.)

Photos/drawings should be scanned at 300 dpi grayscale. Never send original artwork.
