Calling All Illustrators!

Patrick Collins

Patrick Collins

At our February 20th Conference we are lucky to have Patrick Collins, the Creative Director at Henry Holt Books. Patrick is willing and able to critique portfolios and picture book dummies, so if you haven’t signed up for a critique with him yet, there is still time.

PATRICK COLLINS acquires art and oversees the design of picture books, young adult novels, and middle grade fiction. Some of the recent picture books he has worked on are: Baby Bear, Baby Bear, What Do You See?; Old Penn Station, Escapes, This is the Stable, The Curious Adventures of the Abandoned Toys, and Rosa – which won a 2006 Caldecott Honor Medal. Recent novel projects include: Young Fu, Part of Me, Dog Diaries, and The Poet Slave of Cuba. Patrick studied art at Northeastern University in Boston.

His presentation to the whole group is titled, “Concept to Cover.” In it he will discuss the process of designing jacket covers.

The break out session for illustrators is titled, “The Picture Book Dummy” and will include hands on activities. Participants will need to bring: paper (11 x 17), exacto knife, cutting board, scissors, magic tape (scotch), masking tape, some string or thread, large rubber bands, tracing paper, and drawing materials.

It’s a fantastic opportunity for illustrators, so register soon. To register  and for details about the
conference go to Conference Page.
