Pam's Website

Pam Van Scoyoc started writing for children in 1993. Up until then she thought she was an artist. Her first book was published in 1998. Though she writes for children, she presents to all ages.

When not writing, visiting schools and libraries, or promoting literacy, she is enjoying her five energetic grandchildren or working in her garden.

Her dedication to children and literacy is reflected in her books and service on the local advisory board of First Book, a national nonprofit organization for literacy.

“I am so blessed. What a life—what a journey!”

Presentations: K-5th
All presentations are tailored to the audience and include Anatomy of a Book with real parts of the book publishing process for kids to see and touch. Bookmarks, posters and activities sheets are always included.

I Could Catch a Whale
/ yo podría pescar una ballena: 2005
This is the ultimate fish story about a boy who imagines grand sea creatures he might catch if only he could go fishing. This presentation includes whale trivia and a life-size 16’ fluke if not an entire whale. Photo op allows children to compare their size to the whale’s.

The Ballerina with Webbed Feet
/ la bailarina palmípeda
: 2004
This book is about real friendship and life challenges. Pam reads the story with volunteers performing roles and wearing Pattie Patty's ballet tutu, tiara and shoes, but everyone has a roll in the presentation.

Angel Wings: 1998 Grade K- 2
After reading this story about an angel who is afraid of heights, we make a “Magic Ribbon” bookmark and cut out wings. Pam leads a discussion about what they do “to Earn your wings” and “When you are afraid.” With our wings in place, we pose for a group “Angels” picture.

Coming in 2007: Dandelion Angels, about the unconditional love of a father.
