Margaret McManis or Ms. Mac, as she is known to her students, has had 28 years experience in school libraries in and around the Houston area. She is a graduate of Vermont College where she received a Masters of Creative Writing for Children and Young Adults. Ms. Mac's hobbies include presenting tea parties, collecting cameos, playing with her dog McDuff, reading and writing and researching historical Texas characters. Ms. Mac's first picture book, Ima and the Great Texas Ostrich Race, about Ima Hogg—yes, the real Ima Hogg of Texas—was published by Eakin Press in 2002. It is a nominee for the 2005-06 Texas Golden Spur Award. She is busy at work on a paperdoll journal of Ima Hogg’s life.
PRESENTATIONS

I’ma Gonna Win This Race!, GRADES K-2
This 30-45 minute program is geared for younger audiences and has lots of fun facts about ostriches and audience participation with stuffed ostrich puppets and toys. The presentation includes an identify the ostrich game, a stick horse race between members of the audience and a medley of songs from the Ima Hogg musical-30-45 minutes.
Was There a Real Ima Hogg? , GRADES 3-5
This hour presentation is more historical in nature and includes an Ima Hogg fact/fiction game and an ostrich fact/fiction game. Information about what an author and illustrator do including copies of photos used to illustrate pictures in the book. Kids dress in costumes and props from the Ima Hogg musical and perform a dance- one hour.
Ima Hogg Tea Party , GRADES 1-3
This Victorian Tea party chronicles the adventures of Miss Ima Hogg of Texas with a discussion of her life and times enhanced with historical photos of the real Miss Ima. One child is chosen to dress in historical Victorian clothes similar to ones worn by Ima Hogg. Tea is served and manners are discussed-one and a half hours. Small groups of 25.
