After teaching in Baytown schools for 22 years, JoAn W. Martin retired, but continued as a reading/writing consultant for Houston area schools. She taught several years in the Alpha Gifted and Talented program at Clear Creek School District. She also served as an adjunct instructor in the School of Education at University of Houston/Clear Lake. She has been writing for fourteen years and her writing has appeared in thirty plus magazines. Yankee Girl is her first published novel. JoAn was born and raised in a small South Alabama town. Many of her stories are based on her experiences growing up in the South during the thirties and forties.
