Ellen Leventhal
is an author/educator in the Houston area. Don't Eat the Bluebonnets, a collaboration with Ellen Rothberg, is her first published book. It won the 2005 ABC’s Children’s Picture Book Competition and received a bronze medal for “Best First Book” in the 2007 Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards.
Ellen enjoys visiting schools where she can share her love of literacy through fun, interactive presentations. Tailor made presentations address the needs of diverse learners and are adaptable to include collaboration with teachers and faculty members on any campus.
Ellen brings her experience as an educator to all presentations, some of which include:
Reading Strategy Slide Show: This revolves around a humorous, interactive slide show designed to help children utilize “cause and effect” as a reading strategy.
Writing Workshop: This focuses on one or more of the six traits of writing and includes a power point presentation as well as hands on practice with writing and revision.
From Idea to Publication: This allows children to take part in “hands on” activities that will culminate with the children making their own book.
Ellen would love to visit schools, libraries, or any place that values literacy, the written word, and fun!
