Welcome to the Houston chapter of SCBWI

If writing and/or illustrating for children is something you want to do, must do or have done, then SCBWI is for you.

Looking for a speaker for your library, classroom or organization? Here we are.

We’re proud to be a part of the international writing organization – the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.

With hundreds of local members, you will find the support, guidance and information you need to fulfill your dream of writing or illustrating for children. Our writers cover the gamut; fiction, non-fiction, magazine articles, plays, books for toddlers, middle-grade and young adults. Our illustrators never cease to amaze us with their works of art, turning words into pictures.

On the first Monday of every month we meet at the Tracy Gee Center (Go to Events/Calendar for details.) Please join us for the critique group at 6:00 pm and to hear our speaker at 7:00. Our meetings are a great way to network with other writers and illustrators.

Our 2012 Conference was an immense success!

A huge Thank You! to our special guests (pictured left to right) Susan Sherman, Kathleen Ortiz, Jenne Abramowitz, Dan Yaccarino, Heather Alexander, Connie Hsu, and Jennifer Rofé. Photo by Marianne Dyson.

Thanks also to Blue Willow Bookshop for another successful conference bookstore! Along with books by our keynote speaker Dan Yaccarino and books referenced by our other speakers, we sold books by these featured local authors:

Our Illustrator’s Showcase was truly outstanding this year. Here is a brief peek at a few participating illustrators:

Please check our Calendar often for future workshops and conferences. These events offer great opportunities to hone your skills and market your work. We also have a two-way listserv that allows members to connect at any time. To join the listserv go to: groups.yahoo.com/group/scbwi-houston and click “Join This Group”

Again, welcome to the Houston chapter of SCBWI. We look forward to seeing you!
